What is International Academic Program?

International Academic Program is a program offered by the Department of Food Science and Technology to stimulate student participation in international scientific, cultural and sport activities held both in and out countries. Students are facilitated to expand themselves by using their English or other foreign language capacity abroad, by broaden their experiences and by learning to appreciate differences. This program will include various activities including student exchange program, industrial training (internship), sandwich program, research collaboration, participation in scientific meetings (seminar/ conference/workshop), and other types of gathering (cultural or sport programs). Diploma, Undergraduate and graduate students are welcome to joint the program. It is expected that these activities can improve student academic excellence as well as soft skills.

International Academic Program is also opened for staff in form of research collaboration or training abroad. Department also welcomes staff from other Department in-country and overseas to conduct research collaboration and training program in our Department.

Scope of Activity

This program will facilitate and accommodate student activities performed in international programs held in country and abroad.

Students of Department of Food Science and technology, especially undergraduate and graduate students, have opportunity to involve in an international student exchange program.This activity will acommodate student exchange program wherein students from the Department may participate in activities in an institution abroad as a reciprocal act of the Department's acceptance of students from the partner institution. Through this program, students have opportunities to have studying experience abroad as well share of knowledge and understanding with others. This activity is acknowledged by both institutions under the common exchange programs. In general, the financial support of this program will cover inside institution activities and standard accommodation but not travel and other personal expenses.

Students may take courses and credit at other institutions as part of their academic program. The opportunity exists for students in Semester 7-8 of the Food Technology Degree courses to spend their study in suitable subjects at other similar Department abroad, as part of an International Student Exchange Program. Students have the opportunity to take a full semester of study abroad and obtain credit for modules studied in the foreign institution.

Foreign students at similar program may also come to our Department to take courses or complete their final assignment. The course and examination credits gained are transferred on return to the students academic record.

Academic Appreciation

The academic international activities (participation in seminar, international conference will be accredited as equal to the credit that can be earned in International Special Assignment course or as Final Assignment. Depending on the type and load activity, the academic adviser and the academic international activity coordinator will decide/propose the credit earned by the student. The credit earned will be calculated based on actual time and work load allocated to accomplish the activity. The scheme for the credit values is as follows:

  • 6 credits: activities equal to Final Assignment, Research or Intership (industrial training)
  • 3-4 credits: activities of 2-3 months (International Special Assignment: training, literature study, course in a certain subject)
  • 2 credits: activities of 1 months or less (International Special Assignment Course: short courses, literature study, course in a certain subject)

Student's academic adviser will guide and advise the load and type of work or activity and propose the credit value of the work.

Incentive

Student participating in any international activities may apply to the Department for a reward in form of financial and other possible support.

Procedure to Apply

  • Students will look for programs from various institutions worldwide to participate and perform the application
  • When appropriate, by discussing with academic advisor, students may apply for the program. Department will facilitate necessary assistance for applications.
  • When accepted, participant must report to International Academic Program (IAP) coordinator. The IAP coordinator will contact the student's academic adviser and decide the credit appropriate to the activity.
  • Participating students may apply for financial support from Department in addition to other funding sources (scholarship, self-finance, etc.
  • AIA coordinator and student's adviser performs monitoring and evaluation of the participating student activity.

Program for Overseas Students or Staff

Department of Food Science and Technology welcomes overseas students or staff in similar areas to joint in our international academic program. You may joint the following program:

  • Enroll in some courses that you are interested. Please, see the curriculum of our educational programs (Undergraduate, Master and Doctorate Program)
  • Enroll in full academic program for undergraduate or graduate programs.
  • Conduct research activities for your final assignment (for undergraduate/bachelor degree program or thesis/dissertation (for Master/Doctorate Program). Various research areas based on local (tropical) commodities are available in our Department.
