The Department contribution to community (outreach program) is directed toward food industry empowerment (small, medium and large scales). This activity is designed to support acceleration of industry transformation to become knowledge-based food industries. The mutual partnerships are developed to in line with the mission of the university in teaching, research and public service, including the dissemination of knowledge for the public good. Many food industries and government institutions have developed mutual partnerships with Department. While the list of associates includes some of the largest and most prominent food companies in Indonesia, about half of them are small and medium food industries.
Department of Food Science and Technology warmly welcomes collaborative works with any institutions (food industries, governments and other institutions nationally and internationally). The outreach activities are designed in form of education and training for human resource development, research and development in all aspect of food starting from raw material to its consumption, food analysis service, and technical and quality management consultations. These partnerships are able to support the continuity/ sustainability of student learning through goal-oriented research, thus building the technological infrastructure essential to ensuring competitive Indonesian food industries.
Department has established a Technology Business Office (TBO), an autonomous unit which coordinates and implements the Department outreach program. TBO has facilitated technology commercialization and food product development according to client interest, training program, empowerment of Small-Medium Food Enterprises (SMEs), and technical consultation services. Department also has a Food Analysis Service Laboratory, which provides food analysis services for clients. |
Initial Consultation: The Department recognizes the importance of working with clients to clearly define the requirements and identify cost-effective and technically viable solutions.
Proposal: Once both Department and clients have agreed with scope the overall of the project, Department will prepare a proposal for clients to be reviewed. This proposal will clearly define the scope of work, methodology, project management, project cost, time and payment schedules, and deliverables.
Contract: The mutual partnership project will be commenced soon after the contract is signed. A designated project leader will inform the work progress to clients regularly to ensure that the project is implemented and completed in accordance with the client request.
Risk Management: Research and development has a high degree of inherent risk at the beginning of a project. To anticipate this situation, joint client-project manager are established to ensure the project objectives are met in accordance with the request of clients. |
