The using of artificial reef in Belebuh Bay has already done since 1993 in order to rehabilitate reef fishes natural habitat which already broken.
Since its installed a year ago, there is no observation on it until now. In this reasearch, its observed the reef fishes composition arround artificial reef at any depth (10, 15, 20 m).
The objectives of this research are (1) to know the reef fishes composition arround artificial, (2) to know the optimum depth of artificial reef installation and (3) to introduce the fishing technology by using bubu (trap).
This research was carried out on October 1994 until March 1995. Experimental fishing was done by using bubu in any depth (10, 15, and 20 m).
The result showed that the number af fishing that caught at 10, 15, and 20 m were 204, 309, and 121 fishes each. The analysis of variance showed that the total catch in each depth was significantly different.
The number of catch were 27 species which group in 19 family. Generally, the catch were dominant by Casionidae (19, 12 - 29,75%).
The each at 10 m were Caesionidae (19,12%), Nemipteridae (15,69%), Mullidae (14,70%) and Holocentridae (11,76%). The catch at 15 m were Caesionidae (28,10%), Nemipteridae (16,83%) and Portunidae (11,00%). The catch at 20 m were Caesionidae (29,75%), Portunidae (20,66%) and Diodontidae (14,05%).
The introduction of bubu (trap) to the fishermen in research area were admitted.
